The Bunya Tree

Hello all!

Welcome to my first blog,

In the beginning we never truly know what we will become… In my beginning, I started as a teeny tiny Bunya tree seed.  I pushed and shoved my way through the soil until I was a little bud at Lot 70 Burton Street in the beautiful Bunya Mountains. Over my 100 years, I have seen so many changes as I grew to reach new heights of over 50 metres in the sky, looking down on the forest below me. I had a great foot hold on the earth with a trunk that had a diameter as big as 1.5 metres. I was surrounded by many of my kind and we often swayed in unison, through the rainy days, the sunny days, the winter and the spring. I shared my life with the various coloured birds who used my branches as a perch and my leaves as a shelter, the forest animals that would dance and scatter around my roots and a diverse range of plants species that grew and fed from the same soil as me.

Over the years, human settlers came from far and wide to share our beautiful place and experience the holiday homes scattered throughout the mountain top. They would come to stay and appreciate the sweet surrounds the Bunya’s had to offer.

As my last days were coming to an end, a man purchased this land with a vision that would transform me from a dead tree that once stood beautiful within the garden into some beautiful creations for his holiday homes throughout the mountains. A new beginning in which I will serve a new purpose and still be admired by many who get to see me.

This wasn’t an easy transition, with a lot of labour and time spent cutting me down and milling me tirelessly into timber pieces. This timber which will now be used for external cladding, that will shine with the beauty of a tree that was once part of the forest that now surrounds it. I will become kitchen cupboards, furniture and so many more inventive little creations. The people that are working with me marvel at my timber and I am now excited for my new beginning… Let’s see what I can become.

I will miss my friends in the forest, but it is a comfort to know that I will remain in the Bunya Mountains for years to come. While you stay in Bunya Mountains Dark Sky Accommodation, keep an eye out for me and wish me luck with my new journey.

Sincerely,
Your friend the Bunya Tree
